Dr. Magnavita is a nationally recognized psychologist, psychotherapist, and lecturer who has been in full-time clinical practice for over three decades. He is especially known for his scholarly work and expertise in understanding and treating those with complex behavioral and mental health issues. He is the author and editor of ten professional books and numerous chapters on psychotherapy, personality theory, and the treatment of personality disorders. He has been trained in a variety of approaches to psychotherapy and treatment modalities.
Elizabeth has been recognized for her work at HRI a psychiatric facility in Brookline, MA., where she conducts group psychotherapy. Elizabeth received her BA in psychology from the University of New Hampshire, where she received an athletic scholarship for swimming on their Division I team and her Master of Social Work at the University of Connecticut. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Connecticut. Her interests are in integrative healing, emphasizing balanced self-care including nutrition, engaging in the arts, and exercise. She works with with adolescents and young adults who are struggling with mental health issues or simply trying to navigate the world. She is available for telehealth sessions.
Caroline received her B.A. in Psychology from Wheaton College and her Master in Social Work from Springfield College, where she was inducted into the Alpha Phi Honor Society. She previously worked at The Latham Centers, caring for traumatized children and those suffering from Prader-Wili syndrome. She also worked as a Special Education Paraprofessional in the Glastonbury School system before pursuing her MSW. She completed two internships during her graduate studies; one at the Institute of Living and the other in the East Hartford Middle School. Her focus is on working with children and adolescents. She currently works at the Human Resources Institute in Brookline, MA.

We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing. Our goal is to move you from living in survival adaptation to abundance. Dr. Magnavita is trained in trauma informed treatment.
Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Therapy sessions are held with couples and is a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationship. Family therapy may also be offered when there are relational issues that are interfering with family adaptation and functioning. Dr. Magnavita is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Connecticut. Supportive psychotherapy which emphasizes relational elements common to all approaches to psychotherapy are also appropriate for many individuals.
Our personality is our psychological immune system that is comprised of cognitive schema, emotional experiences, adaptive strategies, and patterns of reaction to our environment and life's challenges. Anyone's personality can become dysfunctional, leading to symptoms and relational disturbances. Your personality can get stuck in repetitive maladaptive patterns, as the result of traumatic experiences becoming chronically dysfunctional. Your unique personality will be used as a guide to develop effective treatment strategies. Dr. Magnavita has extensive background and expertise in personality-guided treatment and has been feature in APA videotapes demonstrating his approach.
In this new book Michael Baldwin courageously reveals the process of psychotherapy with Dr. Magnavita from a patient's perspective. In this volume, with commentary by an experienced trauma therapist, the nature of trauma and the road to healing are described and depicted with powerful images. A must read for anyone in therapy or wondering what the process entails.
